Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What’s the difference between regular products and products that are organic?

A: When a label says ‘organic’, it means that the product has met the requirements of an organic certification board. These boards require that the product be grown without synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers, and without genetic modification. In the case of dairy, the product must come from animals raised without hormones.

Note: a product which is not certified organic is not necessarily grown with chemicals, nor is it necessarily genetically modified. Many local farmers use natural methods, but do not certify their produce as ‘organic’ due to the high costs.

Q: I’d like to buy a product that you don’t sell. Will Foodstuffs make special orders?

A: This largely depends on our suppliers: some suppliers allow us to order just one of something, while others require that we purchase a large case. Drop by the store and tell us what you’re after, and we’ll do our best to accomodate your needs.

Q: Do you make gift baskets?

A: Absolutely. Our gift baskets are custom made and filled to the brim with quality goods. Give us a dollar amount and a general idea of what you’d like to see in the basket; we’ll take care of the rest. We truly appreciate advanced notice, particularly during the busy holiday season.

Q: This oregano is only twelve cents! How is that possible?

A: Through the magic of bulk and the absence of a fancy bottle. You’ll also be pleased to know that our bulk herbs & spices are very fresh…we go through them like crazy!
